# Open Terminal Here — Folder Context Menu

Right-click any folder in Explorer, Finder, Dolphin, Nautilus, Nemo or Thunar and open a Tempest terminal there — on Windows, macOS and Linux.

Right-click a folder in your file manager and choose **Open terminal here**. Tempest comes to the front with a new local terminal tab already in that folder.

This is a desktop feature. It is not available in Tempest Mobile or in web mode.

## Turning it on and off

It is on by default. To change it:

**Settings ▸ General ▸ System Integration ▸ Open terminal here**

The switch applies immediately — you do not need to click **Save changes**.

Turning it on or off needs no administrator rights, and turning it off removes the entry completely.

## Where to find it

### Windows

Right-click a folder, the empty space inside an open folder, or a drive such as `C:\`.

On **Windows 11**, click **Show more options** first — or press `Shift`+`F10` instead of right-clicking. All non-Microsoft apps appear there.

### macOS

Right-click a folder and look under **Quick Actions** (it also appears in the **Services** submenu).

If it does not show up right after you turn it on, log out and back in.

### Linux

Supported in Dolphin, Nautilus, Nemo and Thunar. In **Nautilus** it lives under right-click ▸ **Scripts**; in the others it is in the main right-click menu.

## Open With ▸ Tempest

You can also hand a folder to Tempest from the **Open With** menu, or by dropping it on the Tempest icon in the macOS Dock. This works whether or not the context-menu entry above is switched on.

Drop a file instead of a folder and the terminal opens in the folder that contains it.

## If it does not appear

* **After an update, or after moving Tempest** — start Tempest once and it fixes itself. If not, switch the setting off and back on.
* **On Windows 11** — check under **Show more options**.
* **On macOS** — log out and back in.
* **You deleted it by hand** — that is fine, switch the setting back on to restore it.
